China Mobile Yi Zhiling: 1000 5G base stations will be built by the end of the year

Communication World Network News (CWW) On July 17, the third "5G and Future Network Network Strategy Seminar" was held in Beijing. Yi Zhiling, chief scientist of China Mobile, explained how to make the network more flexible (flexible), Green (energy saving), Open (open), and smart (smart) for 5G.

Actively embrace the 5G era of great integration

With the upcoming 5G, operators' traditional CT networks have encountered unprecedented challenges. In the 4G era, IT has risen and CT has gradually become a pipeline. Yi Zhiling said that the 5G era is an era of truly great integration and deep integration. This is a very exciting thing.

Under the leadership and planning of the IMT-2020 promotion group, China Mobile is currently preparing for the third phase of the 5G scale experiment in full swing. It has already announced the construction of base stations in five cities, plus 5G features in another 12 cities. The scale of the application end-to-end experiment. The two groups add up to more than 500 sites plus more than 500 sites, and more than 1,000 sites will be ready by the end of this year to keep up with the IMT-2020 promotion team and begin large-scale pre-commercialization next year. The experiment began commercialization in 2020.

The success of 5G must be successful in cross-industry cooperation. Of course, in addition to technology, there are business models, and there are many other challenges and opportunities. Therefore, China Mobile has announced the establishment of a joint venture center in early 2016, mainly to build a platform that can work together with all walks of life to jointly explore and work together.

Yi Zhiling said that as of last month, Lianchuang Center has 224 partners, the figure is the number of last month, and three-quarters are different vertical industries. Of course, it is a big challenge in the terminal industry. We have also worked hard to launch the 5G terminal pioneer plan, which is closely related to the industry chain closely related to the terminal announced at this year's Barcelona exhibition.

Yi Zhiling said that what I personally find is more exciting is that China Mobile recently announced the establishment of a digital low-altitude base, which is based on some air-based communications on smart base stations and ground-to-air compensation aircraft. , while considering a very interesting space. This space is between about 100 meters in height and 500 meters in height. The current experiment is 100 meters to 300 meters, and 4G reinforcement may be possible. A 300-meter to 500-meter may require a 5G redesign.

The drone is a virgin land all over the world, because it is not like the height of the real flight aviation, the routes are already sorted out globally or in various regions and countries, in such a digital low-altitude drone. It can provide a variety of new features that you can imagine, including express delivery, pesticides, construction, etc., and the imagination is very large.

Soft&Green&Open&Smart

Yi Zhiling said that in order to actively embrace the 5G era, the carrier network needs to become Soft&Green&Open&Smart.

We must learn the best friends and the most powerful enemy, OTT. Their characteristic is that they are flexible in their bones. They don’t need to change generations in ten or twenty years. They don’t need to use the year to calculate a new generation. Upgrade, they don't need years, no months, no weeks, no days. They can give you a version in the morning, and a new version will come out in the afternoon because they are very flexible. Today, our industry has no disputes about the need to soft, it is already a consensus. In the future, we hope to achieve end-to-end soft, the core network should be soft, the access network should be soft, and the air interface should be soft.

5G innovation is always on the road, and on the basis of flexibility, we must move towards Green. From 2011 and 2012, China Mobile began to research and develop cross-network collaborative energy conservation. The 2G, 3G and 4G networks are regarded as one system. With a single software, it can be fully managed, and the parameters can be re-adjusted every 15 minutes to re-optimize the base station. All the parameters are designed to provide the best guaranteed service in the most efficient way. The most efficient is that we can achieve the quality and flow of the local needs at that time with the least resources and the least power consumption. It is very helpful for provincial companies. The energy consumption of small base stations is about 1% to 2%, that is, 98% are not radiated. Large-scale base stations consume about 10% of energy. If 5G is deployed on a large scale in the future, the bottleneck of these two energy consumption must be broken.

On the Open side, China Mobile joined forces with the US-China German-French and Japanese operators to form an oran, which brought a big impact on the standard working group. At the Shanghai Bar Show in June, the oran was established. In addition to the five sponsors, there are seven operators. Now there are 12 operators, as well as chip manufacturers, equipment manufacturers and IT vendors waiting. Join, we can officially begin to open to accept new members, probably at the end of this month.

China Mobile is facing the road of open&smart. In 2015, it began to think about how to use wireless big data, which is the overwhelming data in the network to carry out the transformation and upgrading of the existing network. However, the current development of this function is only used probably. To 10%, about 5, 6% of the vast amount of data in the real network. In the future, we will strive to use this data to achieve more network intelligence.
